Summary:
Whereas, the New Jersey Department of Education and New Jersey School Development Authority issued the Securing Our Children’s Future Bond Act to provide school districts funding for school security upgrades. Funding for the installation of panic alarm systems to comply with Alyssa’s Law, P.L. 2019, c.33, is prioritized; and

Whereas, Newark was awarded $27,410 based on the school buildings that service NBOE preschool students only; and

Whereas, the Office of Facilities and Office of Security collaborated to submit a proposal that included: Alyssa’s Law security devices, main entrance upgrades and security system upgrades in district schools; and

Whereas, the grant implementation will be managed by the Office of Facilities and Office of Security.

Recommendation to the Board
Now, Therefore Be It Resolved, Newark Board of Education accepts the NJDOE Security grant in the amount of $27,410 for security upgrades and improvements in district preschool buildings and intends to comply with all the guidelines in the grant application.
