Summary:
|
WHEREAS, the Newark Board of Education desires to lease vertical growing community farming units to allow students to participate in the full growing process from seed to harvest, while learning first-hand the benefits of local, sustainable food production; and
WHEREAS, the Newark Board of Education is authorized to enter into an agreement for extraordinary unspecifiable services in accordance with N.J.S.A. 18A:18A-5a (2); and
WHEREAS, the Newark Board of Education approved the vertical growing community farming units during the June 22, 2021 Board Meeting for a three (3) year period commencing July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2024; and
WHEREAS, the lease agreement includes a service package that includes, but is not limited to seeding, germination, growing and harvesting training, a periodic supply of growing inputs, and monthly support; and
WHEREAS, the Newark Board of Education desires to amend the contract to include vertical farm units at Central High School; and
WHEREAS, the recommendation for amendment of term contract was reviewed and approved by Kathleen Tierney, Director of Science. |

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Newark Board of Education accepts and approves the amendment of term contract for vertical growing community farming units from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2024 as follows:
Just Greens LLC/ Aerofarms, Newark, NJ at cost not to exceed from $135,000.00 to $225,000.00
EXPLANATION: To allow student participation in the full growing process from seed to harvest, while learning first-hand the benefits of local, sustainable food production. Subject to the availability of funds. |
