Summary:
WHEREAS, a Complaint was filed in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Law Division, Essex County, bearing the caption Verna Julious o/b/o Y.S.J.I. v. Newark Board of Education, Docket No. ESX-L-4675-18;
WHEREAS, the Board of Education, through counsel, has denied the allegations in the Complaint;
WHEREAS, upon recommendation of the Superintendent and the Governance Committee of the Board, without admitting any liability, in order to avoid protracted and costly proceedings, the Board finds that it is in the best interest of the Board and the school district to resolve the matter by way of a settlement proposed by the plaintiff;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
The Board hereby approves and authorizes settlement of Verna Julious o/b/o Y.S.J.I. v. Newark Board of Education in accordance with the terms recommended by the Superintendent and the Governance Committee of the Board, including the disbursement of funds, and the Board hereby authorizes the Board President to execute a settlement agreement on behalf of the Board, which shall include a general release of claims by the plaintiff and such other terms as may be recommended by General Counsel.
