13.2 Approval of Science Curriculum by the Newark Board of Education

2.1 Develop and implement a pre-K through grade 12 inclusive curricula and assessments that elevate historically marginalized voices, strengthen and sustain a focus on the instructional core, and provide opportunities to learn about perspectives beyond one’s own scope.
Priority 2.3
2.3 Develop a cognitive-learning approach to pedagogy and instruction that deepens understanding of the science of learning and centralizes knowledge building as core to improving the academic achievement of all students, including English language learners, students with special needs, and struggling learners.

Summary:
Whereas, the Newark Board of Education is committed to the continuing improvement of the educational program of the district; and

Whereas, teachers, department chairs and central office personnel have authored Science curriculum that provide a year long overview.

The new curricula include:
1. Project Lead the Way for 2nd grade
2. Biochemistry

Additionally revisions were made to these existing curricula:
1. Forensic Science,
2. Anatomy and Physiology,
3. Biology,
4. Chemistry, and
5. Grade 5 Science Curriculum.
 
Funding :
No cost to the district.  
Recommendation to the Board
Now therefore, be it resolved that the Newark Board of Education approve the new and revised Science curricula as outlined in this resolution.
