Summary: Whereas, the Newark Board of Education is committed to the continuing improvement of the educational program of the district; and

Whereas high school English teachers have authored two Units of Study for Grade 11 African American Literature: "Breaking the Chains: The Road Up From Slavery" and "Ain’t I A Woman?: The Struggle of Intersectionality in America" that provide alignment to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards by subject area, differentiation plans, unit plans, and assessments.
Funding : No cost to district.
Recommendation to the Board: BE IT RESOLVED, the Newark Board of Education approve the Two Units of Study for Grade 11 African American Literature: "Breaking the Chains: The Road Up From Slavery" and "Ain’t I A Woman?: The Struggle of Intersectionality in America."
