Priority 2.3 2.3 Develop a cognitive-learning approach to pedagogy and instruction that deepens understanding of the science of learning and centralizes knowledge building as core to improving the academic achievement of all students, including English language learners, students with special needs, and struggling learners. Summary:

Whereas, the Newark Board of Education is committed to the continuing improvement of the educational program of the district; and
Whereas high school English teachers have authored two Units of Study for Grade 11 African American Literature: "Breaking the Chains: The Road Up From Slavery" and "Ain’t I A Woman?: The Struggle of Intersectionality in America" that provide alignment to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards by subject area, differentiation plans, unit plans, and assessments.
