Subject: 13.3 Approval of syllabi for English 1030 and US History 2303 from Kean Scholars Program.

Summary: Whereas, the Newark Board of Education provides dual enrollment opportunities for high school students;
Whereas syllabi that govern the content for dual enrollment require NBOE approval;
Whereas English 1030 and US History 2303 for the Kean Scholars Program requires NBOE approval.

The English 1030 course will focus on the processes, skills and strategies needed to become rhetorically informed academic writers. Students will learn strategies for critical writing, reading and thinking.
The US History 2303 course will focus on the exploration of the American Revolution and Civil War from a social, political and cultural perspective. The course will also focus on broader themes of slavery and freedom.

These syllabi have been reviewed by the Office of Teaching and Learning.
Funding : No cost to the district.
Recommendation to the Board: Now therefore, be it resolved that the Newark Board of Education approve the syllabi for English 1030 and US History 2303 for the Kean Scholars Program.
