Summary: WHEREAS, programming at Newark Vocational High School includes a Culinary Arts Academy which provides students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the realm of food preparation and creation by developing the essential knowledge and skills needed in the Food Service/Hospitality Industry; and

WHEREAS, the culinary program requires various food supplies; and

WHEREAS, in accordance of NJSA 18A:18A-5a (6), food supplies including food supplies for home economics classes are exempt from the advertisement requirements; and

WHEREAS, the Newark Board of Education issued a request for quote for the desired culinary program supplies. And, the District’s request for quotation and the vendor’s response will become the contract; and

WHEREAS, the contract term shall be October 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023; and

WHEREAS, the recommendation for award of term contracts has been reviewed and approved by. Dr. Maria Ortiz, Assistant Superintendent.

Recommendation to the Board: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Newark Board of Education accepts and approves the award of term contracts for culinary supplies for a contract term of October 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023 as follows:

A. Ace Endico, Brewster, NY at a cost not to exceed $50,000.00
B. Driscoll Foods, Wayne, NJ at a cost not to exceed $50,000.00

EXPLANATION: To provide the students of the Newark Vocational High School Culinary Arts Program with food supplies for creating fresh, nutritious and balanced meals. Subject to availability of funds.
