2.3 Develop a cognitive-learning approach to pedagogy and instruction that deepens understanding of the science of learning and centralizes knowledge building as core to improving the academic achievement of all students, including English language learners, students with special needs, and struggling learners.

Summary: Whereas, the Newark Board of Education is committed to the continuing improvement of the educational program of the district; and

Whereas teachers, department chairs, and central office personnel have authored grades 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th , 10th, and 11th curriculum guides and Latin American Caribbean History, and Debate that provide alignment to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards by subject area, differentiation plans, unit plan, and assessments.
Funding : No cost to the district.
Recommendation to the Board: Now therefore, be it resolved that the Newark Board of Education approve the Social Studies curricula in grades 6, 7, 8, World History, US. History I, II, Latin American Caribbean History, and Debate.
