Subject: 13.6 Approval of a Memorandum of Understanding between ArtSmart and the Newark Board of Education.

2.3 Develop a cognitive-learning approach to pedagogy and instruction that deepens understanding of the science of learning and centralizes knowledge building as core to improving the academic achievement of all students, including English language learners, students with special needs, and struggling learners.

Summary: Whereas, ArtSmart has agreed to implement its ArtSmart program with the Newark Board of Education at Abington ES, Barringer HS, East Side HS, Hawkins St. ES and University HS.

Whereas, ArtSmart will provide students access to voice lessons and increase engagement among students, teachers and professionals for the 2002-23 school year.

Whereas, ArtSmart will provide mentors for every three students in the program.
Funding : No cost to the district.
Recommendation to the Board: Now therefore, be it resolved that the Newark Board of Education approve this Memorandum of Understanding with ArtSmart and the Newark Board of Education so that it may commence with programming opportunities at the aforementioned schools.
