Summary:
|
WHEREAS, in response to the COVID-19 National Declaration of Emergency proposals were electronically received on Friday, April 1, 2022 after public advertisement for Development and Creation of Curated Culturally Responsive Classroom Libraries. Request for proposals were issued to seven (7) vendors with two (2) vendors responding; and
WHEREAS, the District desires the creation of curated culturally responsive classroom libraries for grades kindergarten through fifth, and related professional development services to support teachers in effective implementation of instructional best practices; and
WHEREAS, the Newark Board of Education approved the award of contract during the May 26, 2022 Board Meeting for a three (3) year period of May 26, 2022 through May 25, 2025 with an option to renew for one (1) successive two (2) year period; and
WHEREAS, the Newark Board of Education desires to exercise its sole renewal option; and
WHEREAS, the recommendation for renewal of term contracts has been reviewed and approved by Jazleen Othman, Director of English Language Arts.

Recommendation to the Board:

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Newark Board of Education accepts and approves the renewal of term contracts for Development and Creation of Curated Culturally Responsive Classroom Libraries for a two (2) year period of May 26, 2025 through May 31, 2027 as follows:
A. Scholastic Inc., New York, NY at a cost not to exceed $4,000,000.00
B. Schoolwide Inc., Huntington Station, NY at a cost not to exceed $3,000,000.00
EXPLANATION: To meet the educational requirements of New Jersey and the District’s Education Plan.
