Subject: 13.4 Approval of a Data Sharing Agreement between New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) and the Newark Board of Education.

2.1 Develop and implement a pre-K through grade 12 inclusive curricula and assessments that elevate historically marginalized voices, strengthen and sustain a focus on the instructional core, and provide opportunities to learn about perspectives beyond one’s own scope.

2.3 Develop a cognitive-learning approach to pedagogy and instruction that deepens understanding of the science of learning and centralizes knowledge building as core to improving the academic achievement of all students, including English language learners, students with special needs, and struggling learners.

2.6 Ensure curricula for college and career programs are executed with fidelity across all schools, increase the integration of academic core instruction into Career and Technological Education (CTE) programs of study, and provide higher education and internship opportunities.

Summary: WHEREAS, the Parties are working together to operate the NJIT/Newark Math Success Initiative (MSI), which is designed to identify and strengthen qualified NPS high school students’ mathematics knowledge, skills and preparation for college work, as well as provide
professional development opportunities to NPS teachers; and

WHEREAS, to carry out MSI, NPS will share the education records of participating students with NJIT; and

WHEREAS, the activities contemplated by this Agreement are of mutual interest and benefit to NPS and NJIT and will further the objectives of the Parties in a manner consistent with their respective non-profit, tax-exempt, educational status.

Whereas, the NJIT/Newark partnership will identify and strengthen qualified high school students math knowledge, skills, and preparation for college work and provide professional development opportunities for Newark Board of Education teachers.

The Newark Board of Education will provide the educational records of students who will participate the 2022-23 school year using a secure method of transmission to NJIT for their study.
Funding : No cost to the district.
Recommendation to the Board: Now therefore, be it resolved that the Newark Board of Education approve this data sharing agreement with NJIT in order to support the NJIT-Newark Math Success Initiative.
