Summary:
|
Whereas the researcher would like to examine how teachers' leadership behaviors create an environment that encourages open and productive dialogues among students on sensitive topics such as race, gender, and identity. Moreover, the researcher would like to explore how teachers, as leaders, can promote a learning environment that prepares students to engage with the broader societal changes of our times.
Whereas the researcher will be focusing on the following research questions:
1. What strategies do teachers use to establish and maintain conditions conducive to brave dialogues in urban classrooms?
2. In which ways can the teacher's leadership style influence their behavior in creative brave spaces in the classroom?
3. What do teachers perceive as the primary benefits of creating brave spaces in urban classrooms?
4. What challenges do teachers face when attempting to create and maintain brave spaces in urban classrooms?
Whereas the researcher would like to conduct interviews with 9-12 volunteer high school teachers from the Newark Public Schools. The purpose of the research is to investigate how teachers' leadership behaviors contribute to the development of Brave Spaces in classrooms.
