Summary: Whereas, The Newark Board of Education, Office of Early Childhood seeks approval to apply for a 5-year Head Start discretionary grant term starting July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2030; and

Whereas, the federally funded Head Start program ensures continuous services and seamless transitions for 1,000 children residing in the City of Newark. The program provides high quality comprehensive early education programming to low-income children and families so that children start school ready to succeed; and

Whereas, the Office of Early Childhood desires to initiate Year 1 of Head Start Grant budget period 7/1/2025 to 6/30/2026 in the amount of $9,278,280.

Recommendation to the Board: Now, Therefore Be It Resolved, The Newark Board of Education approves the Head Start application to be submitted in the amount not to exceed $9,278,280 and intends to comply with the agreements and components set forth in the grant application.
