Summary: Whereas, the Teach STEM Classes in Nonpublic Schools grant initiative aims to help schools address the rising costs of STEM education, the growing shortage of qualified STEM teachers in the state, and the need to expand STEM education offerings to all students, helping them prepare for the future; and

Whereas, the Teach STEM Classes in Nonpublic Schools grant has approved Heichal Hatorah in partnership with Charles Galligan and The JEC – Bruriah Middle School in partnership with Bruce Titen both employed by the Newark Board of Education; and

Whereas, the Teach STEM Classes in Nonpublic Schools approved grant awarded for Charles Galligan is $16,357.12 and for Bruce Titen is $8,905.53; and

Whereas, the funding used to provide compensation is based on the hourly rate and the total number of hours teaching one or more regular STEM Courses at the approved non-public schools; and

Whereas, the Office of Teaching and Learning, Science Department will oversee the grant; and

Whereas, the grant funding is for the 2022-2023 school year.
Funding : $25,262.65
Recommendation to the Board: Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved, the Newark Board of Education accepts the grants from the Teach STEM Classes in Nonpublic Schools in the total amount of $25,262.65 and intends to comply with the provisions in the grant award letter.
