Summary:
|
WHEREAS, site assessments were conducted at John F. Kennedy School; finding exterior walls had loose and falling brick affecting the health and safety of all occupants; and WHEREAS, on May 3, 2021 in accordance with N.J.S.A. 18A:18A-7, the Superintendent issued a declaration of emergency to address the health and safety concerns. On May 7, 2021, the Essex County Superintendent issued a letter concurring with the decision of Superintendent León; and WHEREAS, the Newark Board of Education approved an emergency contract at the March 24, 2022 Board Meeting for masonry restoration, roof replacement and gymnasium floor replacement to Northeastern Interior Services, LLC. in the $1,543,763.26, which included a credit of $81,180.00; and WHEREAS, change order one addresses a price increase in the insulation adhesive in the amount of $21,471.19; and WHEREAS, change order two addresses the parapet reconstruction and bridging required for protection and repairs in the amount of $50,149.01; and WHEREAS, change order three addresses rebuilding the 11th St., north and courtyard elevations, rebuilding the 11th St. brick veneer, drilling weep holes in the courtyard, probes to observe the conditions of the steel shelf angles, helical ties installation necessary to stabilize the parapet areas, additional window caulking, and installation of plastic weeps at shelf angles in the amount of $66,067.13; and WHEREAS, the cost of change orders one through three is one hundred thirty-seven thousand six hundred eighty-seven dollars and thirty-three cents ($137,687.33); and WHEREAS, change orders one through three were reviewed and approved by Carlos Edmundo, Interim Executive Director of Facilities Management and Krystle Whitlock, Assistant School Business Administrator.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Newark Board of Education accepts and approves change orders one through three in the amount of $137,687.33 increasing the contract value to $1,681,450.59. EXPLANATION: To provide minor field modifications due to unforeseen circumstances for emergency masonry restoration, roof replacement and gymnasium floor replacement at John F. Kennedy School. Subject to availability of funds.
