Subject: 14.6 Approval of a Memorandum of Understanding between America's Grow A Row and the Newark Board of Education

Summary: Whereas, America's Grow A Row agreed to help teach students at Michelle Obama Elementary School about nutrition and culinary arts.

● Provide four (4) weekly culinary classes over the course of 1 month. Classes will be taught by an AGAR educator.

● AGAR will provide all culinary tools. Tools will be child safe.

● AGAR will provide the produce each week. Each lesson will feature a different kind of produce as the harvest schedule permits. Examples of produce might include: cabbage, apples, squash or potatoes.

● Promote the joint relationship with Michelle Obama School on social media, print and TV media outlets when appropriate.

Role of Michelle Obama Elementary School in the AGAR Farm-to-Fork Kids Classes:

● Michelle Obama School will provide a space that AGAR’s educators will teach a lesson that includes nutrition, agriculture and culinary skills. That space will have electrical outlets, running water, and appropriate surfaces for food preparation.

● The class teachers will be present for the lesson and will assist AGAR educators when necessary. Examples of that assistance may include: helping children complete the task, helping the educator by encouraging students to listen and participate appropriately.

● To provide photo release information. Parents are free to approve or restrict permissions.

● An accurate count of the number of students in each class.

● Complete a survey at the end of the 4-week session to provide feedback for AGAR.

● Promote the joint relationship with AGAR on social media, print and TV media outlets when appropriate.

Recommendation to the Board: Now therefore, be it resolved that the Newark Board of Education approve this Memorandum of Understanding between America's Grow A Row and the Newark Board of Education.
